Artist: UR Underground Resistance Album: The Final Frontier Label: Underground Resistance Year: Final Frontier is the fifteenth studio album by British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 13 August 2010 in Germany, Austria and Finland, 17 August in North America, 18 August in Japan, and 16 August worldwide. At 76 minutes and 34 seconds, it is the band's second-longest studio album to date, a duration surpassed only by 2015's The Book of Souls. Melvyn Grant, a long-time contributor to the band's artwork, created the cover art. It is the band's final album to be released through. Final Frontier is to quick to drop out the base kinda leaves you hanging. Base Camp Alpha is at best a filler and Quadrant 5 I wouldn't play in a lift. Nearly bid 41 on this the other day. Never mind the artwork or the title, the chief concern of Iron Maiden's 15th album is Earth - specifically, the end of it: There will be a catastrophe the like we've never seen, warns Bruce Dickinson on the album's 11-minute closing track, and by the time we get there, we've seen rivers flowing with blood, ominous comets and. 30 years, 85 million album sales, 2000 live performances and now a 15th. The album's first half is rounded out by the surprisingly complex and cerebral first single El Dorado, which was clearly written with 2 Minutes to Midnight as a template but isn't that good, before finally striking out with the efficient but ultimately somewhat forgettable speedster The Alchemist, yet, all in all, this is a very impressive start

I was given a cassette with these tracks on it and more by my producer back in 91, his friend had just finished recording them and he wanted to know what I thought of it. I biked around NYC listening to it, and all I thought was "WOW, this is very interesting music!!" No I don't have the cassette anymore, it got lost in the past, but finding this brings back great memories! It made the pop music I was making sound so lame, I am so glad I ditched that.
Mines Brown when held up to light, anyone else find this with theirs?
lots of records from detroit and chicago are like this, UR, Relief, Cajual etc. - cheap vinyl pressing.
If you have landed on this page by chance, this is the luckiest day of your life.
Blessed. Such a true gem. Not many songs reach this level of spectacular.
final frontier is the kind of track you play to someone that associates electronic music with ibiza and david guetta.
Brilliant comment! What is EDM again? Like they invented it? Elitist crap!
im convinced .. final frontier. do dmt !
I'm not convinced. Final Frontier is to quick to drop out the base kinda leaves you hanging. Base Camp Alpha is at best a filler and Quadrant 5 I wouldn't play in a lift. Nearly bid £41 on this the other day. Glad I didn't
weird flex but ok.being dismissive on iconic and proven quality tracks is a very old-fashioned way of proving your expertise and usually has the adverse effect
I don't get it. You're not impressed with these tracks and yet you were willing to almost drop 41 pounds buying it. Just a tad addled?
Yeah, you really need to have your ears checked, buddy.
please dont flush ur meds in the toilet, its bad for the environment
Alternatively, it could also be said that this is a timeless record of powerful music created by a legendary artist.
Blows away the competition, very ahead of it's time, banging Electro release. Unmissable.
For me the B side of this is one of the most prized, disgusting little gems of my record collection. i won't even try to get all creative with how to describe this track, except that it's one of the most undeniable floor rockers ever.
Yeah you know that, gets the floor moving every time with out fail
We always used to slow this down a bit, pure groove, such a deep track, still as fresh as ever.
Perhaps my best record from 1991,, Top !
Epic record. I remember Detroit DJs would often mix this with Kraftwerk's Numbers, so good.
I've always loved this record it was in the first stack I ever bought. I actually picked this up again. Im sure it's a repress from Submerge for $5.99 US. Got it in the mail just the other day.
This came out at a time when i was young and marketing departments wanted to reach me. Trying to cash in on my culture. Trying to get me to buy their latest shit. Major labels produced videos and recruited good looking artists in an attempt to fill their vacuous talentless void. I had a mindframe of f*ck your marketing, f*ck your logo, f*ck your brand, f*ck your empty headed bullshit. UR003 was everything i ever wanted
One of the best ! Final Frontier, a tune .
There is nothing quite like it. There's no question, this is the by far the most spiritually and enhancing tracks ever Created in the world of electronic music or any other genre for that matter. Breathtaking.
I bought this record from Fat Cat in London about 92 and was just totally blown away. The 808 drives the whole tune with the 303 pulsating underneath, the chords set the scene and this really is a trip into space. Mad Mike created a true masterpiece. The final frontier still sounds as good today as it did back then.
This record celebrates beauty in simplicity.
happy light
I used to go to the techno night 'The Final Frontier', at Club UK, Wandsworth, London in the 90s - it got shut down like many great nights. I also used to play this record all the time and hearing it now reminds me of how exciting electronic music can be. Pure escapism.
Me was my weekly pilgrimage to paradise. As for the track it’s Timeless. Pure!
Yup was there 2 and a LOST frequenter great great times great great records
Me too! We probably bumped into one another in that messy back room!
When I first met Mike in the early 90's, I owned all UR releases to date, except UR003. Took me another 5 years to discover that one was actually missing from my collection and then another 2 years before I realized The Final Frontier very likely is the best piece of electronic music ever made. But I needed legendary Dutch DJ Ferenc (i-f) to play it for me at some underground acid-electro party to get to that point, as I somehow had never played that mesmerizing a-side (that appeared like the b-side to me back then). Looking back now, I suppose this was the universe protecting me from something that I wasn't ready for yet.Because when it finally struck, it was more than lightning, it's more in the source-of-everything-energy category, like feeling god inside you. This track for me is like the soundtrack to my life and my soul.I was fortunate enough to meet Mike again a couple of years ago and thank him for this track, from the bottom of my heart. It was great to hear him tell that he and Robert recorded the track more or less live in one take. When they finished it, it was like they woke up from a trance, immediately realizing they created something very powerful and unique. So I guess the song was conceived in their minds by some divine intervention. Last time something like that happened must have been around 2014 years ago...Anyway, when I die and they allow my loved ones to pick just one track to play at my funeral, this is the one. And loud please. No compromise. After all, this is Underground Resistance.DJWD
Nice nice story! I’m with you. You can feel pure inspiration running through the Final Frontier. Beamed from beyond the veil straight into their minds. Stunning!
invite me to your funeral please mate it sounds like good send off
is this repress out already or what?
repress at rush hour for pre order
"final frontier" is my no.1 track in techno history. it's more than a music, it's a jurney to different dimensions.
It's electro.
Base Camp Alpha 808 is just unreal
Final Frontier is by far the best piece of electronic music I´ve ever heard. My absolute top track number one. It has these mixture of pure energy, dramatic, sadness and cold feeling. Love it forever.
A1: Screams classic Detroit sounds. Dramatic acid work over fast captivating, breaky, electro beats and some gorgeous cold yet emotional synth chords blended on top. Huge sounds to lose yourself on the dancefloor. A stone cold classic that helped define the label and the genre. [GOLDTEN]A2: Blindingly fast bleepy techno with a 16-BIT sound. Synth chords take the edge off what otherwise would be a difficult listen. Nice use of samples later on help give character. Groundbreaking but a hard sell now. [SEVEN]B: Timeless. Production work was so ahead of it's time it still sounds fresh bar the "underground resistance" sample. Nice funky breaky beats and spacey synths. But despite it's admirable qualities it won't impress many beyond beard strokers now. [SIX]
While it doesn't scream "Detroit" as much as UR's other work, this futuristic acid-based record is one-of-a-kind and timeless. Truly transcendental music from a legendary name.
anything on streets ahead of anything else around.get hip 2 this.pure 24k gold
Very good record. The song "The Final Frontier" is one of the best songs, its loaded with alot of energy and emotions, very nice.
'The Final Fontier', best Detroit Techno, Electronic record ever.
UR003 A record for peoples of different plume, techno purist will love it, breaker crews will love it, Tom Dick & Harry will love it. It is a universal track that resonates at any wave, it is a monolith of a track!!
The Final Frontier is just.. something nonterrestrial, and at the same time its atmosphere and feel of grief is familiar to everybody.. It's sad not many people know about Detroit tragedy and this record and as a whole about proper electronic music.
The release year for UR-003 reads as 1991 however this record didn't come out until late 92 (around same time as Red Planet 1) after Jeff had left UR.
Mustard Forgotten
Not true, I bought this in late 91, possibly early 92.

Man, what a record!!! What you hear and FEEL in these tracks is incredible!!!! Reminds me of the red planet series (this is mike banks as the martian). If you love this record do yourself a favor and track down the martian with "lost transmission from earth". Incredible combination of techno, electro & acid. Spin final frontier in a set and you know heads will turn! This is an essential record, if you are into fantastic electronic music!!!
Well, this is maybe the best thing in the UR catalouge, all three trax are timeless classics. If somebody want to show what "Electro/Techno" is about, future, rawness, a certain feeling, this is the one. Proved over years. Each track has the right mixture of electro beats, synthesizer and sampling workout and on top of all, atmosphere. Hardly can pick one as a favorite, I fall in love with each of them, years ago. Thank you UR.
Been shedding tears listening to this one in the record shop. 'Final frontier' is some kind of evidence that music-made-with-machines can cause deep and intimate feelings, beyond any rational ways of understanding... I've heard few tracks up to now capable of such a powerful fusion of heavy dancing beats, nostalgic melodies, simplicity, darkness, complexity and brightness. Could be the anthem of an ecstatic cybergoth party in a post nuclear Ibiza... could be !
Proof of Genius - if you still needed one - Mike's first attempts are always masterpieces, no matter the style, Techno, Garage or like here, Electro. With this strings, Mike defined the most important characteristic of Detroit Techno: the length of the melodical loops. The track is also close to the Red Planet spirit, like a soulful introduction to what Mike calls Trance.
'The Final Frontier' is probably my favourite UR track. Killer layered chords, excellent twangy 303, mean sub-bass, crisp drums. 100% vibes for Africa. It still sounds fresh and great more than 10 years on. If Mike Banks had beamed this track back in a time machine from 2041 I wouldn't be surprised.
The Final Frontier - this track is like a force of nature. A feeling which words cannot describe. The final frontier that we must cross to reach somewhere better. Another major UR moment. Base Camp Alpha 808 - great minimal space-funk. Entering Quadrant 5 - again that feeling only Mad Mike can create. Yet another UR classic!
" the final frontier " is my favourite track on it , perfect atmosphere !!
