And so we went back to our roots. tonstwo I sincerely believe that MONO are the best at their particular brand of post-rock. Favorite track: Legend. Ilko Birov. For My Parents is the new album by MONO, the Japanese quartet who - over the course of half a dozen albums in twice as many years - has followed their own muse, and in the process have become one of the most distinctive bands of the 21st century. They are an instrumental rock band whose melodies have grown increasingly lyrical, with increasingly transcendent execution. MONO - Unseen Harbor Unavailable. Mono - For My Parents review: Mono are as fine tuned as ever, but lacking the dark dramatics of their previous albums. More importantly, For My Parents has some definite pacing issues that make extended listens a minor chore. At 60 minutes, the five song album features a lot of wasted space towards the end. Where the band has always exceled at utilizing each moment-even the silences-this time around theres a lot of bloat, namely during the 15 minute Unseen Harbor. This issue plus the lacking climaxes adds up to some rather disappointing moments. Mono have adhered strongly to their past, but with For My Parent the band has changed up their tone considerably.
